      <image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Nurture - Close relationships</image:title>
<image:caption>When we ask parents what they value most about our school, invariably they tell us that the close knit family feel and nurturing relationships are the number one. We take a progressive approach to emotional regulation, actively teaching children how to manage their big feelings and providing loving guidance when things become difficult. You can read more about our approach here</image:caption>

<image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Nurture - Comfortable and happy kids</image:title>
<image:caption>At Kwoorabup we know that children need to feel secure and relaxed in order to access their full learning potential each day. That’s why you’ll find cosy nooks in all our classrooms where students can find a quiet restful place to settle their emotions, or simply settle down with a friend and good book.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Nurture - Beautiful environments</image:title>
<image:caption>At our school we want the children to feel at home, so our classrooms are designed to be open with room for children to move around between their learning activities. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful outdoor environment, and we feel it is equally important to create a restful and inviting space for indoor learning as well. This follows the Reggio Emilio philosophy of ‘the environment as the third teacher’.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Nurture - Families are welcome</image:title>
<image:caption>We are proudly an ‘open door’ school, where parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to come and be a part of the school day. We understand that to create a cohesive and nurturing environment for the children it is important for them to be able to share their experiences with the most important people in their lives … you! For those parents whose working and family responsibilities make it hard to join in during the school week we work hard to share the learning journey through our photo based apps that instantly bring the precious moments straight to your phone. There is no obligation to help out at the school, only opportunity, which allows the gift of your presence and help to be freely given and received with the thanks it deserves.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Community - Building relationships</image:title>
<image:caption>As part of a small town it is really important to us to build relationships beyond our immediate family networks and connect in with the local community groups which have so much to offer our students. We also have good connections with the other schools in the region, with the local Principals meeting regularly and many families knowing each other socially through sports and other activities. This connectivity is of particular importance to our older students as they transition towards high school and widen their horizons accordingly. We have deliberately cultivated a close relationship with the local High Schools to ensure that the transition for students is smooth and successful.</image:caption>

This is the magic of Boodja koorliny which can take the students to wherever the learning is to be discovered … which is usually … everywhere! This allows us to fully absorb and take in the changes that happen in the natural world over the seasons and years, and gives the children a permanent record of their deepening connection to the special places that they visit year after year.</image:caption>

<image:caption>From Year 3 onwards our students have regular camps throughout the year. These range from bush hiking and camping to surf camps and adventure activity camps based at more formal accomodation venues. A highlight for most students is the rights of passage camp held at the end of Year 6 where they venture further afield and camp out at Baladjie rock by the salt lake. Our younger students also get a taste for the experience with a sleepover at school in Year 2.</image:caption>

At Kwoorabup we also believe that a strong emphasis on social and emotional skill building in the context of a literacy and numeracy rich environment is the best possible start to schooling.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our inquiry-based teaching style positions the children as researchers right from the beginning of their learning journey. Instead of being rote taught facts, they are taught how to ask questions, think critically and design experiments to test their ideas. Our teachers act as facilitators and co-learners, provoking questions and supporting students to carry their curiosity into new realms.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Knowledge - Learning by doing</image:title>
<image:caption>Our students are a key part of organising and running our community events and festivals and we specifically plan to integrate key elements of the curriculum such as numeracy and literacy into these hands on experiences. For example we are proud to produce students who are financially competent and enthusiastic about mathematics when they leave Primary School. Why use a printed worksheet when you can run a cake stall instead?</image:caption>

<image:caption>Starting from Year 3 students are given access to range of technological tools such as stop motion animation, coding, robotics and more. Our STEAM and digital technologies program provides a hands on opportunity to integrate our environmental focus into project based learning in teams. Working together is a really important skill for our children to learn however it does take work to get it right. By explicitly teaching how a team works and the different roles we all play in getting a project together we are setting them up with a toolkit for life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Kwoorabup Nature School - Acknowledgement of Country - Teaching the six seasons</image:title>
<image:caption>Our school’s focus on the environment and the seasonal changes that occur around us is very much informed and based on the traditional knowledge that has been passed on by the Pibulman and Minang custodians of this land. The children are taught about the six Noongar seasons and our factional groups in the school are based on the Noongar season in which each child was born. Children learn while immersed in their environment what specific changes occur in nature with each season and how this relates to the abundance of food available at each time of the year and the seasonal movements of people across Country in response to this. They learn about the bush tucker that is available in our environment at the different times of year.</image:caption>
