NATURE - NURTURE - KNOWLEDGE

Unearth your child’s unique abilities and passions at Kwoorabup Nature School

Kwoorabup Nature School

Kwoorabup Nature School is proud to be the first Nature School in Western Australia!

Formerly Spirit of Play Community School, we are located in the town of Denmark on the banks of the Kwoorabup Beeliar/Denmark River.

We deliver the Western Australian curriculum across Kindergarten to Year 6 with an approach that is creative, playful, grounded in nature and connected to the community. We are a progressive, nature-based, nurturing school where children lead their learning. We emphasise community connections, Noongar culture, and research-based teaching practices that are engaging and inspiring.

Inquiry learning for curious minds

Inquiry based learning is a key element of our teaching as it promotes creativity, curiosity and initiative in young learners.

By holding ownership of the area of focus for their learning children become enthusiastic and purposeful drivers of academic investigations.

Students work explicitly on skills to be: researchers, thinkers, collaborators, self-managers, contributors and communicators.

International recognition

Our upper years students extend their critical thinking skills and ‘learner assets’ through focussed lessons using ‘visible thinking’ tools developed by Harvard University.

You can see this learning made visible in this video which features an Inquiry project on Quokkas undertaken by our Year 3 and 4 students, which has subsequently been featured in the spring 2023 edition of international teaching journal Primary Geography! We are so proud of our teachers and students!

Listen To our Little Ones!

Through the process of Inquiry students in the early years ask questions, research with experts, analyse and present their learning back to the community.

In 2022 our Pre- Primary students focused their class inquiry on trees. This was kindly recorded by our friends at Denmark FM and you can listen to their amazing knowledge and curiosity below!
