Community

Join our community

One of the biggest draw cards of our school is the warm, welcoming and supportive community. We view our school community as our second family, and our open-door policy to families means everyone can enjoy being involved with playgroup to festivals and even volunteering in classrooms.

Playgroup Every Friday During term

9am to 11am, all ages welcome for seasonal explorations, songs and community connection.

$10 per session for one participating child, $15 for two, with your first session free.

From Term 1 2024 Playgroup is returning to the school grounds, and will be based in our Kindy room, the Old Post Office Building.

Playgroup families are also warmly invited to join our seasonal celebrations.

FESTIVALS and EVENTS based on the six Noongar seasons

  • Birak

In Birak we celebrate with an open day at the end of Term 4, which is held on a Saturday with live music, fun events and great food made by the children.

  • Bunuru

Our beach festival on a school day early in Term 1 makes the most of the beautiful sunny weather and ties in with our ‘Oceans’ focus for this season. We beach comb, fish, swim and play games on the sand.

  • Djeran

At the end of Term one we celebrate nature’s bounty with our Djeran festival which focuses on the harvest from our vegie gardens and the return of the salmon to our shores.

  • Makuru

Held on a Saturday evening at the end of Term 2, our Makuru festival is a highlight for most families. With shared song, a forest lantern walk and storytelling by the fire it is a special occasion for the community to come together to ward off the winter cold.

  • Djilba

In Djilba we are so happy to see the wildflowers blossoming and the birds nesting and our festival at the end of Term 3 reflects this with a hand built nest for the whole school to fit in beautifully decorated with flowers.

  • Kambarang

The Action Packed Kambarang festival is our unique take on the traditional sports day, with seasonal activities, a dance party and the much anticipated rainbow run!

Parent Participation

We welcome parents to be an active part of our school, and have an open door policy for all classes.

Whether it is as a member of the School Board, assisting in the classroom or making food for festivals, it is our passionate parents that make our thriving community so amazing.

Building relationships

As part of a small town it is really important to us to build relationships beyond our immediate family networks and connect in with the local community groups which have so much to offer our students.

We also have good connections with the other schools in the region, with the local Principals meeting regularly and many families knowing each other socially through sports and other activities.

This connectivity is of particular importance to our older students as they transition towards high school and widen their horizons accordingly. We have deliberately cultivated a close relationship with Denmark Senior High School to ensure that the transition for students is smooth and successful.
